This video, by former Voices of NY editor Sherrie-Ann De Leon, was a welcome treat on a rainy New York City morning, evoking tropical celebrations with dance numbers from Trinidad at the UniverSoul Circus.
De Leon profiled John Sterling, the circus’s limbo king and “the hardest working Trini man in show business” — who clocks 400 shows a year and several rehearsals daily.
Sterling said he is on the road 10 months a year, bending over backwards every night for his art. But he doesn’t mind the hard work, he explained.
“Every time I hit the stage, soca music comes on,” he says in the video. “I represent my country.”
